Senior Adviser - Workforce Development and Governor Support

Alan joined the authority in 1991 as Advisory teacher for Physical Education. After 7 very enjoyable and rewarding years Alan was promoted to Professional Development Coordinator in September 1998.

His main role is to organise and manage the authority's programme of professional development through a coherent and planned programme of training and support. In addition, Alan manages Head Teacher and teacher appraisal within the authority.

Previously Alan started teaching physical education in a secondary school in Hertfordshire in 1978 before moving to a primary school in Surrey in 1980. Teaching initially in Farnham and then in Guildford Alan assumed responsibility for physical education within the school.

In 1988 Alan was asked to take up the role of Curriculum Support teacher in Physical Education for 2 years on a part-time basis. This was a fantastic opportunity and convinced him that applying for Deputy Head posts was not the right way forward!

Alan's leisure interests include playing cricket, squash and golf, sport in general, gardening and cooking, but not DIY.
