Barking and Dagenham is located at the heart of London's Thames Gateway, the biggest regeneration area in the UK. Over the next 20 years, we will benefit from as many as 30,000 new homes, 15,000 new jobs, improved transport links, new community facilities and a better living environment.
The Regeneration Department works with the community, voluntary sector, local businesses, government and public sector organisations to regenerate Barking and Dagenham's physical environment, strengthen its economy and create greater opportunity for families and individuals.
Our overriding aim is to make sure that regeneration benefits every community, every family and every individual living in Barking and Dagenham, by:
The Department is organised into 5 main areas:
Asset Strategy and Capital Delivery|
We make sure that the borough's assets, such as Council buildings, roads and footpaths are well maintained.
We are responsible for increasing the supply and choice of housing in the borough.
We will coordinate our preparations for 2012 Olympics, as well as sports development, leisure and arts.
Skills, Learning and Enterprise|
We work with agencies, businesses and schools to improve skills for adults and young people and help them into jobs.
We are responsible for the regeneration of housing and transport, providing development control and strategic transport planning services.
