Council Departments

Adult and Community Services

The Adult and Community Services Department will promote the independence and well-being of adults and older people. It will also coordinate work on wider community safety issues and be responsible for our much valued library and heritage service.

The department will hope to deliver better improved services through independence and choice. There will also be a greater emphasis in strengthening partnerships with the community and voluntary sectors including those in Public health.

Being healthy and having a good place to live, learn and work will be the departments main priority.

Departmental Organisation

Services for Adult and Community Services will be delivered through 5 divisions:

Adult Care Services|

Provides support and care to the most vulnerable sections of the community, helping them live as independently as possible.

Adult Commissioning|

Adult commissioning aims to understand the needs of service users, developing service packages and improving quality and performance.

Community Safety and Preventative Services|

Helping reduce crime, disorder and the harm caused by illegal drugs.

Community Services, Libraries and Heritage|

Aims to connect people and change lives. The team supports the voluntary sector in the borough, and advises the council on equalities and diversity issues, as well as managing and developing library and heritage services.

Procurement and Contract Review Team|

Advises and works with colleagues in the department to decide which services should be specified and how to best provide them in the future. Often this leads to a decision to tender the service.

Mental Health|

Provided in partnership with North East London Mental Health Trust.

Public Health|

The health policy projects and other related work within the council should be managed here to concentrate the resources dedicated to the public health agenda.
