Barking Park Light Railway

The Light Railway at Barking Park has always been a popular attraction, with many people having fond memories of it. It closed in 2006 and since then efforts have been made to attract a private operator to run this unique attraction.

The Barking Park Light Railway is about to get a new lease of life. Currently negotiations are continuing with a private operator and subject to terms being agreed, it is planned to reopen this facility in Autumn 2008.

The Light Railway is a 7¼ inch gauge railway. The 'Drewery' type locomotive was hand built in Kings Lynn by a model engineer, and the 'Class 15' was built from a modified kit. The passenger carriages are all handmade and are capable of carrying several people.

The railway will run from the main gates in Longbridge Road to the boating lake and operate on a Saturday and Sunday from Easter until the end of September (10am - 4pm each day) - weather permitting and subject to staff availability. During the school holidays the railway will also run on a Monday.
