Valence House Museum 

"One of the best local history museums in London" (Museums Journal) 

Welcome to Valence House, voted by the Guardian as one of the 50 best free things to do in London. The only surviving manor house in Dagenham, it dates back to Medieval times and is still partially surrounded by a moat. Following extensive refurbishment in 2010, exciting Galleries tell the story of Barking and Dagenham and its people throughout the ages. The Archives and Local Studies Centre is situated in the Visitor Centre.

  • After touring the museum, relax in the tranquil surroundings of the Herb garden, Victory Plot and Grounds. Round off your visit by taking refreshments in the Oasis Cafe and browsing in our shop (both located in the Visitor Centre).
  • Bus: 62, 128, 150, 5
    Rail: Becontree Station (London Underground, District Line) then a 62 bus.
    Chadwell Heath Station (Overground, National Express East Anglia) then a 62 bus or 15-minute walk.
    Road: Valence House is close to the junction of Valence Avenue and Becontree Avenue (see map).
    Car park (free): in Valence Park (via Becontree Avenue)
    Street parking (free) in Becontree Avenue

    Level access throughout the ground floor of the museum. A lift provides level access to part of the upper floor. The Visitor Centre is fully accessible.
