Libraries 

Libraries in Barking and Dagenham offer an exciting range of services to help you enjoy your leisure time or get the most out of your studies.

Our membership of the London Libraries Consortium means library members have access to millions of books, CDs, DVDs and other items available for loan to suit all tastes.

Our library services are for all the community. It's free to join, there is no minimum age limit and you do not have to live in the borough to become a member.

All libraries in the borough will be closed on the following dates

• Monday 4 June
• Tuesday 5 June

All will open to the normal pattern of hours outside of these dates

The majority of the branches open for 6 days a week - including a full day on Saturday.  Barking Library is open on Sunday too. So there has never been a better time to join and visit your Local library.

The library service fees and charges will be changing from 2 April 2012.  Full details of the new charges can be found here Charges and hire fees.

The proposed implementation of computer charges has been postponed for a later date. (Use of public computer and Internet) We will let you know the date as soon as possible.

The service remains free for people under 20 and over 60

Advance notice of computer charges

For members, the daily amount of access will be up to two hours per day and a yearly charge will now apply of

• £12 for residents ( 23p per week)
• £25 for non -residents ( 48p per week) 

If PC's are available, extra time can be bought by members at
£1 per hour

Guest Usage will be charged at

• £1 for 30 minutes
• £2 for one hour

As has been publicised in recent months, the Council has to make huge savings in the next financial year as a result of the reduced money we are receiving from the Coalition Government. Unfortunately because of this, we have had to make some tough decisions and regrettably it has been decided to close Wantz Library as a part of this.

Unfortunately this library closed on Saturday 31 March 2012.
