Was set up as a direct result of the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act, which placed a statutory obligation on local authorities, the police, health authority and probation service to work in partnership to reduce crime and disorder in the borough.
The team works with the police and other partnership agencies to reduce crime and disorder through specific working groups and projects. The team also works very closely with other groups and agencies on a variety of anti-crime initiatives.
Opportunities are investigated to bring extra funding into the borough, and the team have been very successful in achieving funding for more CCTV equipment, anti-drugs funding, a Street warden scheme, community work and additional security measures for residents.
