Community Educational Psychology Service

Service to schools

Educational Psychologists are allocated to work with groups of secondary and primary schools organised on a geographical and school feeder basis. This helps to provide continuity of support.

  • Each school has a named psychologist who visits regularly. Schools are informed at the start of each year how much time has been allocated
  • Work is discussed and planned at termly meetings held between the psychologist and key staff, such as Head Teachers, Special Educational Needs Coordinators and Inclusion Managers
  • Our work with schools incorporates the special educational needs code of practice and the National Assessment Framework. This includes involvement with pupils who are supported through school action, school action plus and statements of special educational needs. We also work with others in relation to Child Protection and Safeguarding
  • We aim to work preventively and can be involved with group work, school development work, training and research projects. Schools are encouraged to use a third of their time for development work
  • Where pupils require extra support with exams as outlined by the Joint Council for General Qualifications, Psychologists will work with the school to provide appropriate assessment and reporting
  • We also provide a service to Trinity Special School, the Primary and Secondary Tuition Centres, Erkenwald Tuition Service and Additionally Resourced Provision within the borough
  • Children who are educated outside of the borough will continue to have a named Psychologist if they have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or are undergoing Statutory Assessment
  • Psychologists will consult other agencies working with the school, young person or their family
