Children's Centres 

Jobs and training 

Children's Centres provide a range of information and support in finding jobs and training. These are listed below.

For free confidential advice get a full benefit check at your local children's centre.

  • Basic literacy, numeracy and IT skills courses are running throughout the borough. Children's Centres will be able to signpost to your local provider.

    Nursing and Social Work Access courses are also available through Barking and Dagenham College.

    English for speakers of other languages courses are available in some Children's Centres.
     
  • We can offer a range of level 2 courses including:

    • customer care
    • advice and guidance
    • childcare
    • adult care
    • nursing
    • business administration.

    Local adult training providers
    Barking and Dagenham has numerous organisations providing adult training, whether you want to develop your skills for work or for leisure and many courses are free. 

     
  • Young parents can access a number of training courses that are run in various children's centres across the borough.

  • Find out about volunteering opportunities in children's centres including:

    • advice and guidance

  • Drop-in sessions and consultation about local training and employment opportunities

    • Children's centre staff will be able to signpost you to local training providers.
    • Job Centre Plus advisers can discuss employment opportunities.

    Work-Experience Opportunities
    Children's centres offer work experience programmes. These are aimed at year 10, 12 and 13 Trident students based in Barking and Dagenham. However, other students may be considered.

    Job Preparation
    Children's centres will offer support on how to prepare for a job interview, help completing application forms and letters.

     
  • Children's Centres in Barking and Dagenham are now providing Work Clubs.

    The Work Club will give you the chance to meet others looking for work, build new contacts, share job hunting experiences and get advice on interview techniques, CVs and even volunteering opportunities.

    • you make the most of local knowledge
    • unemployed people in their communities get jobs
    • empower local communities
    • encourage people to work together
    • offer additional support to the unemployed
