Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support 

Proof we need to see 

Before we can award any housing benefit or council tax support, we must see proof of things you tell us about in your form.

If you get Income Support, Income-based Job seeker's Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit we need to see proof of:

  • Rent, but not if you are a council tenant; and or
  • Non-dependant income

If you don't get these benefits and you are claiming because you are on a low income, we need to see proof of:

  • National Insurance Number for you and your partner
  • Identity
  • Wages, last 5 weekly, 3 fortnightly or 2 monthly, they must follow on from one another
  • Any welfare benefit, for example, tax credits, child benefit, state retirement pension, if you have problems finding these let us know
  • Savings and investments
  • Rent, but not if you are a council tenant
  • Non-dependant income
  • Bank accounts
  • Any other income, such as maintenance received
