The Mayor

Barking and Dagenham

Welcome to the Mayoral web page.

The Mayor is the borough's first Citizen. Within the borough, the Mayor takes precedence over everyone apart from the Sovereign or the Sovereign's official representative the Deputy Lieutenant.

The Mayor is elected each year by the councillors and must be a serving councillor, although the role of the Mayor is non-political.

The Mayor attends over 350 engagements during the year, performing civic duties as well as supporting various organisations and charities.
