The Mayor is the borough's first Citizen.
Within the borough, the Mayor takes precedence over everyone apart from the Sovereign or the Sovereign's official representative, the Lord Lieutenant or their representative Deputy Lieutenant.
The Mayor is elected each year by the councillors and must be a serving councillor, although the role of the Mayor is non-political.
The Mayor attends over 350 engagements during the year, performing civic duties as well as supporting various organisations, charities and their own nominated charity.
At most events the Mayor will wear the chain or badge and only wear the robes at major civic occasions. Today's modern Mayor tries to reflect our aims and strategies.
