A couple of weeks before each election all qualified electors will receive a poll card with a detailed map on it of their polling place. The card will tell you the date and hours of poll and the location of your polling station.
When you go along to the polling station you must tell the polling staff your name and address (you do not have to take your card with you). You will then be given a ballot paper. The ballot paper will tell you how many votes you have.
There is lots of information in the polling station to help you and our staff are always happy to give you more help and information if you require it. You mark your vote on the ballot paper in a cubicle called a polling booth and then place your ballot paper in the sealed ballot box.
At the close of poll the ballot boxes are taken to a central count and opened. Nobody knows who you have voted for.
