Each dwelling has been allocated a 'band' by the Valuation Officer Agency according to it's capital value as at 1 April 1991.

Business Rates (National Non-Domestic Rates)
Business Rate is a charge set by Central Government but administered by councils to non-domestic property occupiers. This helps to finance local authorities services.
Nearly 4,000 non-domestic properties. Over £42 million charged per annum.
Housing and Council Tax Benefits|
These are social security benefits administered by the council. These benefits can provide help with some of your housing rent cost and council tax. They are 'means tested' benefits.
Nearly 20,000 claimants per annum. £60 million of benefits paid.
This section deals with the rent (and the water rates in some areas of the borough) for council housing and council owned garages.
Nearly 26,000 accounts. Over £72 million charged per annum.
General Income and Home Loans|
This section deals with most of the other income due to us. Such income includes commercial rents, service charges and other council charges.
Over 1,700 accounts per annum. About £10 million in charges.
This section provides payment facilities for all income due to us.
Over 340,000 receipts per annum. Over £780 million income.
