Rent Collection

How your rent is made up

The rent you pay is used by Barking and Dagenham to pay for the housing services you receive such as repairs and caretaking services. Therefore, it is very important that everyone pays their rent regularly and on time.

The amount you pay includes your rent, water rates and possibly a charge for heating and hot water. These separate amounts make up the weekly charge that is sent to you. Your rent is due every fortnight, unless you make other arrangements with us, such as paying your rent, fortnightly or monthly.

When you sign a new tenancy agreement we will ask you to complete a rent direct debit instruction form to pay your rent through your bank. If you are on a low income you can also fill in a housing benefit claim form; you will need to fill in one of our forms even if you have already filled in a form for the Benefit Agency.

We will send you a plastic rent payment card shortly after you move in. This will have your name and rent account number on it and can be used to make payments at any post office or at our payment offices.
