Exemptions

 

If your bill shows that we have given you an exemption, you must tell us about any change in your circumstances that could affect your discount. You may have to pay a fine if you don't do this.

 

Properties that fulfil the conditions below are exempt from council tax.

A - Uninhabitable PDF logo PDF 48K

Are unoccupied and are undergoing structural alterations or major repair. Exempt for the shorter period of either 1 year, or 6 months from the date of completion of the works.

 

B - Charity PDF logo PDF 40K

Are unoccupied and owned by a charity (exempt for 6 months).

 

C - Unoccupied PDF logo PDF 47K

Are unoccupied and unfurnished (exempt for 6 months).

 

D - Detained Person PDF logo PDF 41K

Are left unoccupied by someone who is in prison.

 

E - Resident in Hospital or Care Home PDF logo PDF 40K

Are left unoccupied by someone who has moved to receive personal care in a hospital or home.

 

F - Awaiting Probate PDF logo PDF 40K

Are waiting for probate or letters of administration to be granted (and for 6 months after grant).

 

G - Occupation Forbidden by Law PDF logo PDF 39K

Are unoccupied because there occupation is forbidden by law.

 

H - Minister of Religion PDF logo PDF 39K

Are waiting to be occupied by a minister of religion.

 

I - Receiving Personal Care PDF logo PDF 40K

Are left unoccupied by someone who has moved to receive personal care (not in a hospital or home).

 

J - Carer PDF logo PDF 48K

Are left unoccupied by someone who has moved in order to provide personal to another person.

 

K - Unoccupied by Students PDF logo PDF 46K

Are left unoccupied by students.

 

L - Repossessed PDF logo PDF 39K

Unoccupied and have been repossessed.

 

M - Hall of Residence PDF logo PDF 39K

Students halls of residence.

 

N - Student PDF logo PDF 47K

Occupied solely by students.

 

O - Armed Forces PDF logo PDF 39K

Armed forces barracks and married quarters.

 

P - Visiting Forces PDF logo PDF 39K

Visiting force accommodation.

 

Q - Trustee in Bankruptcy PDF logo PDF 39K

Unoccupied and are the responsibility of a bankrupt's trustee.

 

R - Mooring or Caravan Pitch PDF logo PDF 39K

Unoccupied mooring or caravan pitch.

 

S - Occupied by under 18s only PDF logo PDF 39K

Are occupied only by a person or persons aged under 18.

 

T - Occupation Granny Annexes PDF logo PDF 39K

Are unoccupied and is part of another property and cannot be let as part of a planning control.

 

U - Severely Mentally Impaired PDF logo PDF 56K

Are occupied only by a person or persons who is or are severely mentally impaired.

 

V - Diplomat PDF logo PDF 40K

Has at least 1 person who is liable and who is a diplomat or a person who would benefit from diplomatic immunity.

 

W - Annexe PDF logo PDF 40K

Are part of a single property, comprising of 2 or more dwellings which is occupied by a dependent relative of the resident of the other dwelling.
