At the moment, more than 1 in 4 ratepayers in Barking and Dagenham have decided this is the best way to pay their business rates bill.
Direct Debit is the only payment method that comes with a guarantee.
This is the method of payment we prefer you to use, as it saves you (and us) time and money when making payment.
In recognition of the lower processing cost, and as a 'thank-you' to those paying by direct debit, we allow ratepayers opting to pay by monthly direct debit to reduce their monthly outgoings by paying their business rates over a maximum of 12 monthly instalments, rather than the normal 10 instalments.
Once the direct debit has been set up, there is no action to be taken on your part as payments are automatically debited from your bank or building society account.
If the amount of instalments changes (for example in the new financial year) this will be automatically notified to you.
Please note that debits cannot be made from certain types of account, for example a savings account. Please check with your bank if you are unsure.
Direct debits are always taken on the 15th of each instalment month (or nearest working day after). You should check to ensure that there are sufficient funds in your account to cover the payment at this date.
You can print out a Direct Debit Instruction Form (
PDF 53K), or contact the Business Rates team for more information.
