The administration and collection of business rates is carried out by the council's Business Rates team.
The team is led by the Business Rates Manager and is now a shared service with the London Borough of Havering.
The team is based at 90 Stour Road, Dagenham, and deals with over 4,100 businesses for Barking and Dagenham.
In 2010-11, they are responsible for collecting nearly £50.5 million of business rates for central government.
For non-domestic property the council receives a government grant to cover the cost of collecting rates. In 2010-11, the council will receive approximately £212,000 to be spent on the administration and collection of business rates.
The various ways to pay your business rates.
We aim to answer your telephone enquiries within 5 rings. We receive most of our calls early in the morning and at these peak times our lines are often engaged, which can be frustrating. If you are able to ring later in the day, this could be an easier way to resolve your enquiry.
We aim to answer your written enquiries within 10 working days. If this is not possible, we will acknowledge your letter, and give you a deadline by which we will send you a full reply.
If you wish to visit us to resolve an enquiry, please call into the council's offices at 90 Stour Road, Dagenham.
The offices are open to the public on Monday to Friday (9am - 5pm).
It is not necessary to make an appointment, and we aim to deal with your enquiry within 5 minutes of your arrival.
