Mayor, Members and Fleet Transport

This review took place between July and November 2001 and was carried out by a group of 6 Members.

This Panel was set up to review the service provided and the use made of it, including shifts, costs (comparing the costs of the in-house service against alternative suppliers), vehicle usage and contracts of employment for the Mayor and Members' chauffeurs. By way of comparison, it also looked at the services provided by other London Councils.

A number of conclusions were reached. The Mayor and Members' transport service provided in this authority is excellent. The Mayoral transport arrangements are exemplary and the vehicles used and mace-bearing arrangements for the Mayor are outstanding.

This is important to the corporate image of the borough and changes were agreed to reflect both the highest standards of conduct and efficiency from the service.
