Scrutiny Panel

Equal opportunities in employment

This review took place between October 2000 and February 2001 and was carried out by a group of 7 Members.

The Scrutiny Panel focused on 2 areas of Equal Opportunities in Employment - disabilities and human rights. Panel Members received briefing sessions on both the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and Human Rights Act 2000 before progressing with its work.

A number of interviews were carried out with a cross-section of Members, Directors, Human Resources Managers, the Access Officer, the Welfare Officer, 2 disabled employees and Trade Union representatives. These interviews took in the views of the organisation at every level.

Following the work of this Scrutiny Panel, we achieved the '2 Tick Employer' Award (awarded by the Department for Work and Pensions to employers who are positive about disabled people).
