School Improvement Service

The Westbury Centre

Formerly the Westbury Infant School built in 1904, the building reopened as a teachers' centre in 1971 and is home to the School Improvement Service.

The School Improvement Service works in partnership with schools offering support and guidance. It also works with council departments and institutions to improve opportunities for learning for people of all ages in the borough.

The Professional Development Programme

Our Professional Development Training Programme for schools is delivered from the Adult College of Barking and Dagenham.

The training programme for teachers is steered by Workforce Development and Governor Support and Governor Training.

The Professional Development training programme is accessed online and is available to all schools and the majority of units within the borough.

This electronic system enables teachers to view all planned courses that include details of venue, time and dates as well as descriptions of courses together with course outcomes. Teachers then book online.

Support is available at the Centre to discuss any aspect of the booking procedure by emailing mary.looney@lbbd.gov.uk or lesley.briden@lbbd.gov.uk.
