An audit of the borough's playing pitches is to be carried out to develop appropriate standards and prioritise the development of sport and sports facilities over the next 10 years.
The audit comes hot on the heels of the borough's Parks and Green Spaces Strategy which is currently being implemented. The Playing Pitch Audit is a specific recommendation of this strategy.
We are also looking to review its leisure provision in a move towards producing a wider leisure related strategy, so a comprehensive audit and assessment of playing pitch provision is integral to such an emerging strategy and will help to prioritise future facilities and their uses.
Consultants Ploszajski Lynch have been appointed to conduct the audit and assessment of all playing pitches including public, private, education, natural turf and synthetic surfaces and their associated facilities like pavilions, changing accommodation, toilets and showers.
The consultants will be looking at pitches used for football, rugby, cricket, hockey, Gaelic football, hurling, bowls, tennis and golf.
As well as making site visits to all pitches the consultants will be carrying out a postal survey of all local clubs and pitch providers, speaking to Council officers, local clubs and Club Forums and consulting local sports councils, National Playing Fields Association, County Playing Fields Association and other key stakeholders.
If you have any queries about the project please contact the lead consultant, Jim Lynch, by email on info@plcleisureconsulting.co.uk or on 01277 232 171.
