Sports Development
Local Health Authority grants
The Sports Development Unit will continue to lead on the development of sporting opportunities for people within our local community by delivering a service of recognised high standards.
This has been achieved so far by receiving a number of grants from the local health authority. The details of each are detailed below.
- £420 was received from The British Sports Trust Colson Fellowship Fund to run the Junior Sports Leader Award 'On the Streets' programme on Gascoigne Estate in Barking
- £2,878 was received from Barking, Havering and Brentwood Health Authority primary prevention of coronary heart disease fund to run the second year of the Active Play project in junior and primary schools in Barking and Dagenham
- £1800 was also received from Barking, Havering and Brentwood Health Authority primary prevention of coronary heart disease fund to fund a mini bus service for young people with disabilities to allow them greater access to the after school club at Abbey Sports Centre in Barking
- A further £5,200 was also received from Barking, Havering and Brentwood Health Authority primary prevention of coronary heart disease fund to produce a self walk pack which will enable the community to participate in 9 walk routes around the borough
- An additional £17,453 was received from Barking, Havering and Brentwood Health Authority primary prevention of coronary heart disease fund to fund research and a programme of activities for people from ethnic minorities
- £5,600 was received from the Home Office Racial Equality Unit to fund a summer programme and after school activities for young people in need, young disabled people, looked after children, children in care, young people from ethnic backgrounds and young asylum seekers
- £945.75 was received from the Marathon Charitable Trust Limited to purchase Sports Ability equipment for people with disabilities and to run training sessions for leaders involved in leading Sports Ability sessions
