Charter Mark Award

Charter Mark is a Government Quality Award for Public Services who can prove excellence in Customer Services.

The Award is awarded for 3 years with annual maintenance visits to ensure compliance with the standards, which is paramount throughout the 3 years.

There are 6 major standards that must be checked, evidence has to be provided, which is then qualified to make sure that the standard has been achieved to make the Charter Mark. All have their own sub standards. The 6 areas are:

Within these 6 areas there are 63 criteria altogether. On successful retention of this award we had fully complied with 59 of the criteria, partially met 4 and we did not fail on any criteria.

The assessment lasted for 2 days although the assessor had already spoken to many partner organisations, before he even begun the on site visit. It was an extremely vigorous and exhausting assessment where the Sports Development Unit had to go through all 63 criteria and give evidence and justify how they met the Charter Mark's Standards. The assessment also included interviews with staff and users, visits to sessions taking place around the borough in different settings and further face to face interviews with other partners

We are extremely proud of our achievements but the hard work did not stop there because in the first week of January this year we had to undergo another 2 day appraisal for our Quest assessment.

We are now looking for similar organisations who would like to take part in a Sports Development benchmarking exercise and also those similar organisations that hold the Charter Mark and / or Quest Awards.

We are also supporting other sections in the council to gain this award.
