Street Name Plates

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take you to replace the missing or damaged street nameplate?

After you have reported the fault, it normally takes us between 4 and 6 weeks to replace the nameplate.

I live on a new housing development and my street nameplate is missing or damaged - whose responsibility is it?

If your house and road are part of a new development, the nameplate is the developer's responsibility. The street nameplate stays the developer's responsibility until we 'adopt' the road (which means that we take responsibility for it). The estate road is built to a set standard and it is the developer's responsibility to install the original street nameplate.

If we don't have an adoption agreement with the developer, the street nameplate is their responsibility. After a maintenance period of about 1 year, we will adopt the street nameplate and it becomes our responsibility.

Our street nameplate is missing - will you replace it?

Yes, please give us details of the street or road name and the house or property number where the nameplate was. We will arrange to have the street nameplate replaced.

Most roads in the borough are our responsibility but some are the responsibility of, and maintained by, private landlords and housing associations.

Out street nameplate is dirty - what should I do?

Report it to us and we will usually pass the details to our maintenance contractors on the same working day. Our contractors will complete normal repairs within 5 working days of receiving the report.
