School Travel Plans - Safer Journeys to School

 

A School Travel Plan has 2 main purposes:

• To reduce the number of car journeys to and from a school by encouraging and developing alternative travel options; including walking, cycling, car-sharing and public transport use
• To increase awareness about travel issues such as road safety and pollution

Schools submit an action plan to tackle the problems the school faces during the School run. A Capital Grant is awarded to spend on initiatives and measures which will improve the schools, health, safety and environment.

 

School Travels Plans incorporate the following areas:

• Road safety education
• Health education
• Environmental education
• Physical education
• Personal safety education
• Highway / Engineering improvements
• Environmental schemes
• Road safety schemes
• Health schemes
• Planning applications
• Ofsted inspections
• Healthy schools status
• Community involvement
• Parental education
• Casualty reduction
