A Walking Bus is an initiative to encourage more children, accompanied by adults, to walk to school.
School crossing patrols ensure the travel to and from school, for local children, is as safe as possible.
We have a continuing programme of schemes to improve the safety and operation of the highway network.
On average, 10 people die and 100 people are seriously injured on Great Britain's roads each day.
We receive many requests from residents for these to be introduced in their roads to reduce speeds and improve safety.
Speed is a significant factor in about one third of road accidents in the United Kingdom.
Traffic Management schemes are introduced to solve an identified problem in 1 or more roads.
The Road Safety Officers' role is to raise awareness amongst all age and type of road users, on how to avoid involvement in road traffic accidents. A number of the services the road safety provides are outlined below.
Some of our Road Safety Officers make school visits to teach the borough's children the importance of remaining safe when using roads.
Various Road Safety programmes are given to children of all ages.
Officers also make visits to various local organisations within the borough, for example antenatal classes, and post natal groups to advise impending and new parents of the importance of using and correctly fitting car seats.
The school crossing patrol service is under the supervision and management of the Road Safety Team.
We provide a free child seat checking service to ensure children are safe when travelling in cars. For more information on this service please contact the Road Safety Team.
