It takes time and practice to learn to ride a bike safely, especially when trying to cope with roads and traffic.
Injuries to children in cars can be significantly reduced if they use a suitable child restraint.
Green Cross Code for Children|
Here is a simple version of the Green Cross Code for you and your child.
Infant and Junior School Children - Ages 5-10|
The risk of road accidents increases when your children start school.
Pre-School Children - Ages 1-4|
Small children can not cope with traffic on their own.
Secondary School Children - Ages 11-16|
This is the age where children are at greater risk on roads.
Every year more than 43,000 children are killed or injured on Britain's roads, many of which occur within 100 metres of their homes. Accidents can happen to children in a car, whilst riding a bicycle or crossing the road.
The most important thing parents should remember is that children follow your example, whether it is good or bad.
A child is never too young to be taught the importance of traffic awareness and the best teachers a child can have is his/her parent. Because of this we want to help parents teach their children how to remain safe when near traffic.
