Road Safety

Secondary School Children - Ages 11-16

This is the age where children are at greater risk on roads. When your child first starts secondary school they might be travelling on their own for the first time, and they will probably be travelling longer distances. You are the best person to prepare them for this change.

Make sure your child stays safe

Keep talking to your child about the dangers of traffic. When out with your child try to point out people who are endangering themselves or others. However, still make sure you set a good example.

Sit down with your child and work out together the safest route they can take to school. Make them aware if any dangers they may face and discuss what they should do to remain safe.

Using public transport

When your child begins secondary school, it is likely they will have to start using public transport. This may be something they have never done before.
