Children in cars

 

Injuries to children in cars can be significantly reduced if they use a suitable child restraint.

 

There are a wide range of child restraints available - infant carriers (baby seats), child seats, booster seats and booster cushions. You must make sure they meet the latest safety regulations.

 

Always buy new restraints, as a second hand seat may have been damaged - it's not easy to tell. If it has been damaged, it could cause serious injuries to a child.

Remember

• Do not under any circumstances use any rearward facing child car seat on a passenger seat fitted with an airbag
• Do not use forward facing car seat on passenger seats fitted with a front airbag unless, it can be disabled and your vehicle manufacturer confirms it is safe

• Is your child sitting safely?
• How safe is your child's car seat?

Ask yourself the following questions

• Are you sure that your child seat is right for your child's age and weight?
• Has anyone checked that the child seat in your car is fitted correctly?
• Is it suitable for your vehicle?
