Due to the popularity of this service and it being a new scheme, the glass from your blue box may not be collected at the same time as your other waste (black and orange bags and green waste).
As this is a new scheme it is possible that we may fall behind slightly. So if we do not manage to collect your blue box on the same day, please do not worry, it will still be collected.
Our new glass recycling scheme started on Monday 16 June 2008 and you will now be able to recycle your glass bottles and jars through the scheme. The scheme will see your glass picked up every 2 weeks.
You must place your glass bottles and jars in your blue box and leave it on the boundary of your property and not on the street by 7am on the morning of your collection.
Your blue box will then be collected every 2 weeks on the same days as your normal refuse collections.
Items such as broken drinking glasses or broken window panes, Pyrex glassware, light bulbs, window glass or cookware glass cannot be recycled through the scheme and should be taken to Frizlands Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre.
If you require more than one blue box you can contact Barking and Dagenham Direct and for those who would prefer to continue taking their glass bottles and jars to the Council's bring bank sites - can return their boxes to one of the borough's many libraries.
If you are elderly or have disabilities and are worried about putting your waste out for collection you can contact us for help with assisted collections.
For further information on our recycling schemes, to book an assisted collection, request another blue box or find out your collection day for your blue box please contact us on 020 8215 3000.
