A central government website containing information on both Planning and Building Control activities.

 

English Heritage|

Maintain a list of listed buildings in Barking and Dagenham and try and protect them.

 

Environment Agency|

National agency that consults on planning applications including those that lie in the flood zone. On this page you can view areas at risk from flooding near you.

 

Greater London Authority|

The regional authority for Barking and Dagenham have to be consulted on certain applications. We also tell them about all planning applications granted by entering them in the London Development Database.

 

Public access was recently given to the London Development Database, where you can search for key planning applications in your area.

 

Health and Safety Executive|

Health and safety guidelines for construction sites.

 

Home Warranties|

A local authority building control backed scheme offering warranties on different types of buildings and housing schemes.

 

London Fire Brigade|

For information on legislative fire safety. The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority makes sure that buildings comply with fire safety legislation and issue fire certificates when designated buildings are assessed as being fully compliant.

 

London Thames Gateway Development Corporation have planning power over certain applications that fall within the Urban Development Corporation Zone which extends over the southern part of the borough and Barking Town Centre. More information can be found on the Development Control web page.

Party Wall Act|

A website dedicated to explaining the Party Wall Act 1996.

 

Planning Inspectorate|

Deal mainly with the processing of planning and enforcement appeals and holding inquiries into local development plans. They also deal with a wide variety of other planning related casework including listed building consent appeals, advertisement appeals, and reporting on planning applications.

The Planning Portal is the United Kingdom Government's planning resource. Use this site to learn about the planning system, apply for planning permission, find out about development near you, appeal against a planning decision and research the latest government policy.

The Royal Town and Planning Institute exists to advance the science and art of town planning for the benefit of the public.
