Make a planning application or building regulations application via the internet and find advice. You can also view applications that have already been made and any decisions or appeals made against them.
The planning service works to maintain both the history and future of Barking and Dagenham.
We develop statutory development policy documents that control the way that development within the borough is shaped so that we can encourage balanced and sustainable communities. Our policies ensure that all new developments are built of high-quality urban design and have environmental sustainability initiatives built-in.
We are currently putting together the new Local Development Framework, which sets out our policies for meeting the community's economic, environmental and social aims for the future, where this affects the development and use of land.
We process planning applications, taking account of borough policies, government guidance and the individual merits of each scheme to control development in the borough in the public interest. We also deal with planning enforcement and the management of matters relating to trees covered by tree preservation orders and trees in conservation areas.
More information about development control can be found on the Communities and Local Government website. You can also get Planning Policy Guidance notes, which may help you when making your planning application.
We make sure that all buildings reach regulation standards and we are here to help and advise you when submitting your building regulations application. As well as this, we process building regulation applications and carry out site inspections.
We deal with dangerous structures, certain demolition, access to buildings under the Disabled Discrimination Act, and we issue hoarding and scaffolding licences.
We are charged with approving new street and property names.
