We are required to carry out a sustainability appraisal of the Local Development Framework.
A sustainability appraisal assesses the likely economic, social and environmental effects of the Local Development Framework. It aims to promote 'sustainable development', which is about making sure there is a better quality of life for everyone, now and in the future.
Involves gathering information on the environmental, social and economic aspects of the borough, identifying the main 'sustainability issues' in the borough and developing 'sustainability objectives' to deal with them.
Involves comparing the aims of plans developed as part of the Local Development Framework with the sustainability objectives developed as part of the sustainability appraisal. Alternatives and options to the plan are also developed at this stage and these are appraised against the sustainability objectives.

All work carried out up to this point is then set out in a sustainability appraisal report.
Gives you (the public) an opportunity to tell us what you think about the report. We will give you a minimum of 6 weeks to do this.
Involves assessing the performance of the plan and responding appropriately to any negative effects.
