Set up in 1990, Thames Chase is 1 of 12 Community Forests in England. It covers 40 miles in south Essex and east London.
Thames Chase aims to provide an attractive area with more trees, a range of wildlife habitats and more places for people to visit.
The project is a partnership between the Natural England, voluntary organisations and the 5 Local Authorities of Barking and Dagenham, Brentwood, Essex County Council, Havering and Thurrock.
Work carried out within Thames Chase is coordinated by a small team based at the Forest Centre at Broadfields Farm, near Upminster.
A cluster of traditional farm buildings is situated in the middle of a newly created landscape of woods, meadows, ponds and surfaced paths.
Over the next few years there are plans to develop the Forest Centre into a visitor attraction.
