Out of Hours Support

If you have an urgent problem outside normal office hours you may wish to contact the Emergency Social Worker service.

What sort of problems can the Out of Hours Team deal with?

If you have any emergencies which cannot wait until normal office hours then contact the Out of Hours Team.

Here are a few examples of the sort of problems we can deal with:

Difficulties with children and young people
Child protection issues
Older people who are at risk or need immediate help
Mental Health Act assessments
Concerns about a person with a physical or sensory disability

When does the service operate?

The out of hours service operates Monday to Friday, 5pm - 8am, and 24 hours on Saturday / Sunday including public holidays.

Who will answer the telephone?

An operator will answer the telephone who will take the details of the problem and your contact details. This information is then passed over to the Emergency Duty Team who will then call you back.

What will happen next?

The Emergency Duty Team will try to give you advice and guidance over the telephone on how to deal with the problem, or they will either:

Recommend that you contact another more appropriate agency, providing you with the relevant contact details
Refer the matter on to another Adult and Community Services team the next working day
Visit you or the person with the problem

Who is part of the Out of Hours Team?

The team will always have an experienced and qualified Social Worker. A referral coordinator may also be present till 11.30pm weekdays and 10pm at the weekends.
