The Incontinence Advisory Service could help you to cope with problems that incontinence can cause when living in your own home.
Incontinence is the loss of control of bladder or bowels. It can be caused by a variety of things and affects as many as 1 in 3 of us at some time in our adult lives.
If it happens you should contact your doctor for advice and help. There are many efficient aids for dealing with the results of incontinence.
The Incontinence Advisory Service is there to assess and treat people who are experiencing continence problems. Where possible the condition is cured, otherwise the aim is to improve incontinence care through information, advice and support.
If you suffer from incontinence, you may be able to apply for a laundry service that will wash and dry your bed linen and other clothing items.
Service users are provided with a supply of single sheets, draw sheets and pillow cases. Soiled linen is collected and taken away to be cleaned, and at the same time a fresh supply of linen is delivered. The cost of this service is dependant on the service user's financial assessment.
Referrals to the Incontinence Advisory Service are accepted by telephone and can be from the clients themselves, doctors, nurses or other health professionals.
If the service cannot be offered to you, your district nurse will discuss other services that may be able to help.
Alternatively, contact your GP who will be able to refer you to an Incontinence Nurse.
