Housing Strategy
Barking and Dagenham is an area undergoing rapid change.
We are situated in the Thames Gateway growth area with the potential to develop significant numbers of new homes over the next 10 years largely concentrated in Barking Town Centre and an expansion of the borough at Barking Riverside.
To assist in the achievement of this aim the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Housing Strategy is focused on the following key areas:
- Providing new homes
- Improving the environment, condition and quality of our existing housing stock - including the physical regeneration of estates, Decent Homes, Barking Town Centre and private sector housing area renewal zones
- Linking to programmes to tackle low skills and joblessness
- Providing good quality supported housing and services
- Promoting choice and independent living
- Tackling affordable warmth and climate change
We are refreshing our Housing Strategy for 2011-15. To ensure our Housing Strategy is accurate and robust we undertake a number of research programmes throughout the Housing sector in Barking and Dagenham and more widely across East London.

Housing Strategy
The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Housing Strategy covers all housing in the borough - privately owned housing, council housing and housing associations.
Supporting the Housing Strategy are more specific strategies including a Homelessness Strategy and a Private Sector Housing Strategy.

East London Housing Partnership
The East London Housing Partnership is a partnership formed by 8 East London boroughs. It brings boroughs together to deliver programmes across the East London sub-region including homelessness, under-occupation / overcrowding and affordable housing allocations.
