Shape Up for Homes

Our Shape Up programme has now finished.

The major refurbishment scheme, to improve Council owned houses and low rise flats achieved the following:

Between 1996 and 2005, 19,921 homes benefited from some or all of the following:

10,470 homes have also had central heating systems either installed or upgraded as a result of the programme.

As well as improving homes for residents, the project provided employment for many local people as contractors were encouraged to give local people priority for training and jobs.

Money well spent

A budget of £140 million was spent on the Shape Up programme. This resulted in many council properties receiving works that have not only improved residents enjoyment of their homes, but has also contributed towards us being on track to meet the Government's Decent Homes Standard by 2010.

Capital Works programme

We will continue to make planned improvements to residents homes throughout the borough. Existing and future Capital Works programmes include refurbishment of kitchens and ensuring that your electrical wiring meets government standards.

In addition, we will continue the work with the successful roof replacement and central heating programmes.
