Temporary Accommodation

 

Households who approach the authority as homeless are required to meet the criteria of the homelessness legislation before any offer of emergency temporary accommodation can be provided.

 

Emergency temporary accommodation within Barking and Dagenham is usually within hostel type accommodation. This comprises of shared facilities within a 34 roomed hostel. This is used by families and single households.

 

The Accommodation Unit also use Bed and Breakfast accommodation which is situated both within the borough and outside.

 

Houses of multiple occupation|

These are a recent addition to the provision of temporary accommodation. These are houses split into separate rooms with shared facilities, normally used by 4-5 single households, and overseen by a manager.

 

Private Sector Agreement|

This is temporary accommodation acquired form the private sector, for households in need of accommodation. These are a mixture of houses and flats within Barking and Dagenham, and are managed by Agents whom we approach for properties.

 

The placement of households into emergency accommodation, and the type of provision is that the discretion of the Housing Advice Service.
