Home Modernisation - Council Properties

Improvements

All Councils have been set a government target to raise the standard of its housing stock by the year 2010. This target, known as the Decent Homes Standard, is driving our programme of modernisation to our housing stock.

Stock condition survey

A recent stock condition survey that was conducted by us identified potential for the following improvements:

Refurbishment of Kitchens
Re-roofing
Replacing windows
Replacement or upgraded heating systems
Renewal of electrical wiring
Renewal of lifts in tower blocks
Structural Works

Decent Homes Standard

It is possible that by the Decent Homes target date of 2010, your home may have some of the above improvements undertaken.

To recognise meeting this standard, we carried out an option appraisal called Housing Futures.

Housing Futures has also set a higher standard for Council homes to reach by the year 2015. This is known as the Decent Homes 'plus' standard.

Should a visit to your home be required, then all representatives of the council and its contracted workforce will carry identification cards. You should not allow access into your home without seeing identification first.
