Housing Services has recently been the subject of a best value review and the inspectors assessed it as a fair service with promising prospects for improvement.

We manage around 20,000 properties, as well as 1,500 leasehold flats.
The borough's housing stock is divided into 6 Community Housing Partnership areas. The contracts are managed from area offices in Barking and Dagenham.
The Community Housing Partnership teams undertake a variety of duties. Day-to-day tasks include signing up new tenants and processing requests for joint tenancies and transfers.
In addition, investigations are carried out into alleged breaches of the Conditions of Tenancy, for example neighbour nuisance or racial harassment.
Other duties include routine inspections to check the condition of properties and repossession actions.
6 housing welfare officers, 1 for each Community Housing Partnership area, manage the wardens of sheltered accommodation, and make visits to assess re-housing needs on urgent medical or social grounds.

Contents Insurance
The Council have endorsed a contents insurance package run by Jardine Lloyd Thompson which gives all tenants, leaseholders and right to buy property residents access to contents insurance at a reasonable price.
