Housing Advice Service

Home Insurance

Many Council Tenants can mistakenly believe that their furniture, personal belongings and decorations are automatically insured against theft or damage from fire and burst pipes. Unfortunately this is not the case.

Our buildings insurance only covers certain incidents. If you suffer an incident at your home, your Estate Officer will be able to tell you if it is covered by our insurance. If it is, the Estate Officer will help you to complete the claim form and advise you on what to do next.

We strongly advise all our tenants to have their own home contents insurance.

As a tenant you are entitled to insure the contents of your council house with an insurance company of your choice.
