This leaflet includes information about what swine flu is and how it could spread, what UK governments have done to prepare for a wider outbreak of flu, how you can protect yourself against flu and what to do if you have flu symptoms.

We advise you follow the usual precautions to avoid the spread of most influenza strains. These are:
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible
- Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully
- Maintain good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people
- Clean hard surfaces (for example door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product
- Make sure your children follow this advice
Catch It
Germs spread easily. Always carry tissues and use them to catch your cough or sneeze.
Bin It
Germs can live for several hours on tissues. Dispose of your tissue as soon as possible.
Kill It
Hands can transfer germs to every surface you touch. Clean your hands as soon as you can.
