Licences and Registrations

Our licensing team are responsible for processing and issuing various types of licences for businesses, charities and community groups.

The range of licences covers areas like animal welfare, car boot sales, entertainment, gambling, and alcohol.

When we consider licence applications, we take into consideration Council polices, government regulations and the effect the granting of a licence may have on the local community.

In November 2005 a major change in licensing came about when the selling or supply of alcohol was taken away from the Magistrates Court and the responsibility was transferred over to local authorities under the Licensing Act 2003.

Licences can be applied and paid for in various ways either by contacting Barking and Dagenham Direct or from our website.

There are some licences that we do not deal with and with these licences we have tried to provide as much information as possible by directing you to the correct governing body or agency.

In order to help you we have tried to group various types of licences together along with a brief description. This includes licences we do and do not process.

Any premises used for public auctions must be registered unless the auction is a 1 day charity event. In this case, proof of charity status will be required.

There is an application fee of £390 which must be paid at the time the application is made.

Entertainment and alcohol

The licences listed below include premises like public houses, night clubs, cinemas, theatres, clubs, restaurants, cafés and community halls.

Vehicle hire, dealers and mini cabs

These licences cover various types of businesses activities from the car breakers, scrap metal dealers private and public car hire.

Sales indoor and outdoor

These licences cover various types of businesses activities from the registration of selling poisons, table top sales, boot sales to selling goods on the pavement outside businesses.

Gambling and money

These licences cover various types of business activities from the use of gaming machines, running a lottery, charitable collections and requirements of issuing credit.
