The Gambling Act 2005 plays an important role in the prevention of crime, disorder and public nuisance.
We will be responsible for the issue and regulation of premises licences. These include premises licences for:
The new Act requires Councils to prepare, every 3 years, a statement of principles under the Act (effectively a gambling licensing policy) to show how they will meet the conditions of the Act.
The statement of principles will last 3 years but may be reviewed from time to time.

The Gambling Commission's guidance for local authorities states: 'moral objections to gambling, need or amount of premises are not valid reasons to reject applications for premises licences'.
The Gambling Commission does not allow much flexibility to local Authorities in terms of what can be changed in the statement of principles.
