This licence applies to the movement of a range of the most common animals, including sheep, pigs, cows and deer.
The movement of these animals must be done under certain conditions. These conditions vary according to the type of animal, the destination and the type of trip.
They are constantly being altered, so it is important you make yourself aware of the latest conditions when applying for a movement licence.
There are 4 General Licences and each one sets out rules that must be followed on cleansing and disinfection, scheduled stops, animal identification and the movement standstill period, including exemptions.
Licences for all species are available from and published by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). They can be obtained from your local Defra office and are also available from local Defra Animal Health Divisional Offices.
All the information regarding the conditions are available on the Defra website.
