One of the teams tasks is to ensure that employers are providing 100% compliance with the legal requirements in relation to passive smoking and Display Screen Equipment.
It has been decided that this year these will be checked within office based environments.
The team will be visiting offices to check that procedures are in place to protect workers against passive smoking at work and to protect workers who use Display Screen Equipment, such as computers.
It is the employers responsibility to ensure that their employees are protected from the effects of passive smoking.
Such measures include a separate rest room for either smokers or non-smokers, or the prohibition of smoking within rest rooms.
If you would like more information on this then please contact:
Employers should have in place measures to ensure that all members of staff using display screen equipment have been assessed for the safe use of display screen equipment.
For example, designated users will be entitled to free eye tests and should be provided with a workstation that meets the minimum Display Screen Equipment Regulation requirements.
They produce a free leaflet giving advice on display screen equipment which can be downloaded.
