The Race Relations (Amendment) Act places a statutory general duty on local authorities to promote race equality. This means we must 'have due regard to the need' to:
There are also specific duties to help us meet the general duty and although focusing on race, we are making every effort to ensure equal treatment in other equality areas like gender, disability, age, sexual orientation and faith/religion.
Our strategy to meet our specific duty is our Race Equality Scheme.
Our Race Equality Scheme is a detailed plan that assesses the relevance of all our policies, services and procedures for any race equality impact together with looking at other areas, as mentioned above.
