Early years
The Early Years and Childcare Service aims to ensure that all those involved in the care and early education of children work together for the benefit of the child. It caters for children aged 0-14 (0-16 for children who have specific educational needs/disability).
There are 4 main strands to the work of the Service:
- Integrating services for young children and their families
- Creating and sustaining childcare
- Ensuring that services are high quality, accessible and inclusive
- Developing the skills of people who work in early years education and childcare
Recommendations:
The Early Years and Childcare service is committed to:
- Active recruitment of more black minority ethnic childcare workers
- Active recruitment of more men into childcare
- Providing information on childcare in community languages
- Ensuring that all settings offer inclusive childcare and will support settings financially (inclusion grant) to ensure families of disabled children access the childcare they need to suit their child
